About us

Girls EDGE is a program started by two friends who see the impact a healthy focus on fitness, nutrition and positive relationships can have.

Darcie:
With a background  as a flight attendant and in recreational programming, Darcie is a CrossFit Level 1 certified trainer and has been a part of CrossFit Brighton since the Fall of 2011.

Darcie has played sports all her life focusing on volleyball, softball and basketball, leading her to a degree in recreational programming from Bowling Green State University where she was also a step aerobics and cross training instructor.

After starting a family with her husband Jason, she coached basketball and soccer with her kids Jackson and Josephine (read her story here) and got in involved with triathlons. After competing in the Steelhead Half Ironman in 2009 she searched for a fun way to stay fit and active, leading her to CrossFit Brighton. (Read more about Darcie's journey here)

She became a CrossFit Level 1 certified trainer in 2013 and a CrossFit Kids certified trainer and  in 2014.

Kara:
Also married to a Jason (a different one!), Kara was an enthusiastic albeit not incredibly talented high school soccer player who took up several short-lived exercise fads throughout her adulthood (yes, we mean you Billy Blanks!).

After having sons Drew (read his take on Girl EDGE here) and Luke, Kara and Jason tried to find hobbies and athletic activities they could do together. While only Jason excelled at martial arts and shooting (and basement P90X became too annoying!), Kara immediately fell in love with CrossFit and jumped right in during the Summer of 2011...dragging along Jason a few months later.

With a background in marketing and communications, Kara became a CrossFit Level 1 and CrossFit Kids certified trainer and  in 2013.

Darcie and Kara met at CrossFit Brighton and through the intense camaraderie of the workouts, fun socials and one excruciatingly cold Tough Mudder, grew into great friends well-matched to support Girls EDGE.
