CrossFit is for everyone!

One of the questions/comments we get a lot about CrossFit Brighton Girls EDGE has to do with our programming... the CrossFit basis of what we do.

"That's that thing I see really ripped people doing on ESPN, right?"

"I have a friend that got hurt doing CrossFit."

"You have the kids lift weights?"

CrossFit at it's essence is all about functional movement performed at high intensity. It's about learning how to dead lift properly so you don't hurt your back lifting up bags of groceries. It's about getting familiar with squatting - one of the best ways to engage nearly every major muscle group in your body - and undoing all the harm sitting all day does to us. It's getting that first pull-up, and seeing the joy on the face of not only the girl, but all the fellow Girls EDGErs cheering her on!

What we do can be scaled for all ages, abilities and skill level. When properly coached and in appropriate progression and weight, everyone can complete the same "WOD" or Workout of the Day. Dead lifts start with PVC pipes and onto small kettle bells and maybe only an empty barbell depending on the ability of the girl.

One of the most fun ways we'll have to share this is THIS Saturday when our very own Coach Darcie and Josie will team up to COMPETE in a partner competition at CrossFit Brighton where teams of athletes compete against teams at our sister box CrossFit Dexter.

In a partner workout, each partner combines repetitions of an exercise - both doing the same thing at their own pace/weight. But we know our lovingly competitive Josie will bring it with her fierce headband wearing self and push her "Coach Mom" further than they could do on their own!

We will take photos and share the fun, but if you're in town and want to cheer them on, check it out at CrossFit Brighton from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.!
